Thailand, the paradise for travelers, is currently experiencing a real boom from India. This positive development is supported by a significant increase in arrivals from India, despite recent health concerns linked, among others, to the Nipah virus. The phase from January 20th to 26th is particularly interesting, when the media reported intensively on the outbreak. Arrivals from India increased by an average of around 35% year-on-year. The Thai airports, which are increasingly receiving Indian visitors, have a good hand, with significant increases at the major international hubs:

Forecasts and measures
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) forecasts that about 200,000 arrivals from India are expected throughout January 2026, an increase of about 8% compared to last year. In addition, the TAT is also closely monitoring other markets as the Nipah outbreak in West Bengal has not yet had a widespread impact on travel. In Kolkata, for example, everything is running normally and there is no widespread mask requirement, let alone travel bans or flight cancellations.
To ensure the safety of travelers, screening measures were introduced at two major airports, Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang, on January 25, while Phuket responded intensively to the situation and increased its preparations. There are five daily flights a week from the affected area, a sign that the travel industry remains optimistic.
