Chiang Mai goes international: Big Aviation Festival 2026 starts!

On January 24, 2026, a crucial memorandum of understanding was signed at the Grandview Convention Center, laying the foundation for the approaching Chiang Mai Airshow. This event is being heralded not only as the region's most spectacular aviation festival, but also as an important step towards a Northern Aerospace Cluster that will develop Chiang Mai into an international aviation hub. The Chiang Mai Provincial Administrative Organization is working closely with the Northern Aviation Association to build a major MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul) center for aircraft maintenance and thus strengthen the local aviation industry. Chiang Mai Citylife reports on the ambitious plans that are to be implemented in the coming years.

The 5th Chiang Mai International Airshow will take place from January 23rd to 25th, 2026 at Chiang Mai Airsport Airfield in San Kamphaeng District. This event is part of the “12 Months, 12 Festivals” initiative, which aims to promote tourism in the region. With an expected number of visitors of at least 20,000 people, the airshow is a real highlight for locals and tourists alike. Another goal of this initiative is to generate 300 million baht in revenue through aviation tourism.

Diverse activities for everyone

In order to inspire visitors, an extensive program is on the agenda. Over 40 aircraft will take off in spectacular aerial displays. An exciting aviation exhibition will also be organized where aviation-related companies, educational institutions and airlines can present their offerings. Another highlight is a food festival highlighting the culinary side of Chiang Mai, as well as impressive hot air balloon demonstrations and paragliding displays that will provide additional entertainment.

Particular attention will also be paid to the planned Aircraft Maintenance Skills Development Institute (AMSDI), which is intended to play an important role in training and further education in the area of aircraft maintenance. Chiang Mai Citylife highlights that this institution aims to make a long-term contribution to improving skills in the aviation sector in northern Thailand.

Entry to the Chiang Mai Airshow is free, which is intended to make the event accessible to everyone. This measure will ensure that as many people as possible have the opportunity to take part in this international event, which will strengthen not only the aviation industry but also the tourism industry in Chiang Mai.
