Danger of thunderstorms over Thailand: weather warning for today and tomorrow!

November 2nd, 2025 will once again bring exciting weather conditions for Chiang Mai and the surrounding region. Meteorologists report that many parts of northern Thailand will experience thunderstorms and isolated heavy rainfall. This affects, among others, the provinces of Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Tak, Sukhothai, Kamphaeng Phet, Phitsanulok, Phichit and Phetchabun. Temperatures in the region will vary between 22 and 32 degrees Celsius. It could be noticeably cooler on the mountain peaks at 8 to 15 degrees Celsius, so a light sweater might be a good idea when traveling there.

The weather conditions are caused by an active monsoon situation currently prevailing over the upper south and east of Thailand. A low pressure area in the central South China Sea is also causing instability. This is also confirmed by the reports Thai Meteorological Service. Farmers in particular should be careful: damage to crops cannot be ruled out, so it is advisable to prepare for possible heavy rain in good time.

What lies ahead for us?

For today and the coming days, the weather forecast is planning a situation that many of us are familiar with from the rainy season we endured last year: there are sporadic thunderstorms in the air, which can be accompanied by heavy rainfall. In particular, the days of November 3-7 show a return to less rain in upper Thailand, while the south is expected to remain more affected. However, the high pressure influence over northern Thailand also brings cool mornings that are particularly refreshing.

Interestingly, the monsoon usually moves south from May, bringing with it those heavy rains that cause many vacationers to plan their travel time, while the southern beaches are often deserted in the rainy season. Information from reise-klima.de show that the rainy season also means travelers can benefit from much cheaper prices, meaning some accommodation can be booked at rates reminiscent of those of fifteen years ago.

Don't miss out!

So if you're thinking about heading to the water in the next few days, be prepared for local thunderstorms. In the Gulf of Thailand and the upper Andaman Sea, wind can become dangerous when associated with thunderstorms. The waves can be over 2 meters high, which is a real challenge for ships.

Things remain exciting in Chiang Mai and the surrounding area: the day could start with cool weather and changeable skies and then end in heavy rain showers. But one thing is clear: If you remain flexible, you can experience the beauty and charm of northern Thailand even in the rain. The Report of the Nation highlights that people in the region should be vigilant and prepare for the changeable weather.
