Relief packages for flood victims: Sobmeiy County acts now!

In Mae Hong Son Province, the population continues to face major challenges. Sobmeiy County today provided relief supplies to support the Red Cross in Mae Sariang to help citizens affected by Storm Bualoi. District Administrator Khamphan Mokthaisong handed over responsibility for the relief operation to his deputy, while seven volunteer security forces and numerous helpers stood by to support the situation. A total of 1,000 aid packages containing essential food and everyday items were put together. These packages will be prioritized for distribution to residents of severely affected areas in Mae Sariang and Sobmeiy, where the storm caused significant damage.

The storm brought unabated rainfall, which has already led to several floods in recent days. Information from Thai Rath reports that Mae Sariang District Chief Worakarn Phanthong has ordered authorities to provide assistance as soon as possible. An emergency center has been set up to assess and support the immediate needs of those affected. In Ban Pha Mol, another badly affected village, there have already been reports of numerous evacuated animals being taken to higher ground, while the school in Pha Mo was forced to close for two days due to water intrusion. All of these measures are urgently needed as one death has already been reported as a result of the storm.

Challenges and impacts

The situation remains tense. According to Thai Rath, there are reports of landslides and road blockages making access to some remote villages impossible. In Ban Sab Han, Moo 2, a bridge was severely damaged, further limiting mobility. Damage to agricultural land, residential buildings and public facilities is also alarming. The authorities are actively on site to check the situation and provide first aid.

These devastating conditions have also prompted the mobilization of the military and police to ensure the safety of citizens and intensify operations. Additional units, including soldiers and national parks staff, have been activated to help clear areas affected by landslides and flooding. As the Bangkok Post reports, key traffic routes such as Highway 108 remain impassable due to flood damage.

Community cohesion

The response from local authorities and the community shows strong solidarity in difficult times. The commitment of the volunteers and security forces has helped ensure that many people are not left alone in this crisis situation. All those affected can rely on the support of local authorities and aid organizations.

The situation continues to be closely monitored as the emergency center takes all necessary measures to provide the best possible assistance to the people of Mae Hong Son. We will continue to monitor developments and hope that the situation will return to normal quickly.
