Crisis meeting in Chachoengsao: Bring the water situation under control!

On November 9, 2025, Chai Rat Kaew Phiang Phen, deputy director of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, went to Chachoengsao Province. The agenda of this visit was to monitor the water situation in the eastern Chao Phraya region. He was accompanied by Jamnong Sawatwong, director of the disaster management center, and Phongsak Thirakitthiwat, head of the provincial disaster management office. Surasak Phanthacharoenwongkul, Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, and General Adul Boonthamjaroen, Deputy Minister of Defense, were also part of the delegation. Together they wanted to assess current strategies for water drainage and ensure that the population's water supply is optimally secured.

In Chachoengsao, Navy and Irrigation Department officials reported installing water pumps in the lower reaches of the Chao Phraya. The authorities rely on systematic water management to overcome the challenges posed by extreme weather events. Daily adjustments to the water drainage plans are intended to respond to the current amounts of precipitation in order to keep the impact on residents as low as possible. Thailand has repeatedly suffered from floods and droughts in recent years, underlining the urgency of such measures. According to seads.adb.org, the Chao Phraya is one of the most important water sources in the country and a hub for agricultural production.

Support for those in need

In parallel with the water supply developments, a charitable campaign was carried out in the San Kamphaeng community in Chiang Mai. On the same day, adult diapers and documents were distributed to 168 people in need. This intervention, which took place in collaboration with community leaders and health services, affects a total of 22 communities in three sub-municipalities. A small but important step to help those in need in the region.

In a less pleasant incident, a 24-year-old man was discovered dead in his apartment in Phrae. He had hanged himself with a nylon rope; A forensic investigation revealed no evidence of crime. This sheds unfortunate light on the challenges faced by many people in the region.
