Not only the deputy governor of Chiang Mai, but also numerous representatives from the public and private sectors as well as the church were present at this solemn occasion. The aim of this non-profit organization is to work together with local churches to holistically support children from disadvantaged families. The focus is on strengthening important skills in the areas of learning, health, social and emotional development and ethics. Currently, over 60,000 children benefit from the foundation's programs, which has worked with over 200 partner churches across the country over the years. Chiang Mai News reports that part of the event was an impressive exhibition on the topics of violence against children, children's rights and the role of the church in social change.
Awards and words of thanks
A special part of the ceremony was the presentation of awards to child protection centers and partner churches that are actively committed to protecting children and protecting their rights. Harry Watitakool, the Foundation's Director, took the floor and highlighted the importance of working with partners to advance the development of children and young people. These collaborations are crucial to bringing about lasting change in society.
Challenges for children in Thailand
However, the challenges for children in Thailand are great. In addition to the work of foundations like Darunathorn, there is loud Thai Child Rights numerous NGOs that deal with the issues of violence, abuse and exploitation of children. Examples of this include organizations that offer support measures for children who experience violence or are cared for inappropriately. These activities are essential to create a child-friendly environment and promote children's self-protection skills.
Drug problems and their consequences
Another pressing problem is the influence of drug trafficking, particularly in poor families. As the Children's emergency aid reports, the desperation of many people who enter the drug trade often leads to violence and neglect of children. Many young people have to take on dangerous jobs or are involved in drug trafficking and prostitution. Through educational programs, such as the Saturday school offered, girls and boys are given the opportunity to learn their rights and understand the negative consequences of drug use.
In addition, parents are trained to better protect their children from drug abuse, and a network of volunteers is formed that is actively committed to drug prevention. All of these measures aim to create long-term security structures to enable children to live a life free of violence and drugs.
In conclusion, the work of Darunathorn and other organizations is essential to providing a hopeful future for young people in Thailand. It remains to be hoped that the cooperation between all actors will continue to bear fruit and that the issues of child protection and rights will become the focus of society.
