Sweet and spicy delights: Kalaya Dinner enchants Koh Samui!

At the end of October 2025, a very special event took place in the Long Dtai Restaurant of the Cape Fahn Hotel in Koh Samui, bringing together gourmets and lovers of Thai cuisine. The “Kalaya Southern Thai Cookbook Inspired Dinner” was celebrated under the leadership of Mrs. Tirawan Taechaubol, Business Owner and Group Project Development Manager of Cape & Kantary Hotels. Two renowned chefs, Chef Nok Suntaranon and Chef David Thompson, prepared a menu that celebrated the authentic flavors of Southern Thailand.

The atmosphere was unmistakably romantic: gentle rain enveloped the guests as laughter and joy washed over the outstanding dishes and drinks. Chef Nok Suntaranon, known for her restaurant 'Kalaya', was honored with numerous awards in 2025. These include the James Beard Foundation Award and the award as North America’s Best Female Chef from The World’s 50 Best Restaurants. She was also named to Time Magazine's 2025 list of the 100 Most Influential People. Chef David Thompson also brings impressive achievements, including the White Guide Global Gastronomy Award (2018) and Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants Lifetime Achievement Award (2016).

A feast for the palate

The dining experience began with exquisite opening dishes such as Sakoo Sai Pla, a delicious tapioca cake with smoked fish, and Chor Muang Sai Gai, the tasty butterfly pea dumplings with chicken. The main courses were a taste explosion, from Lhon Pu, a crab curry with coconut and salted duck eggs, to Moo Waan, a sweet pork dish made from a family recipe. Gaeng Leung, a yellow curry with king mackerel and fried chicken with crispy shallots – known as Gai Thod Hat Yai – were also not to be missed. The menu was rounded off with special desserts such as Durian Mor Gaeng and Kanom Khi Mun.
