Matthias Bück: Lifesaver from Thailand – Diabetes threatens emigrants!
44-year-old Matthias Bück, known from the VOX documentary soap “Goodbye Deutschland”, has survived a life-threatening health problem in Thailand. The emigrant, who has lived in the popular holiday destination since 2008, was in critical condition when he decided to seek medical attention. Despite his difficulties, he has one thing above all: hope for a better life in Thailand.
Bück, who works in a German café in Phuket, has suffered greatly recently. He often felt weak and not hungry. His Thai colleagues noticed his bad symptoms, including noticeable swelling and pain in his leg, and urged him to see a doctor. During this examination it was discovered that he was suffering from diabetes and his condition was so critical that he was on the verge of a coma, which would have been life-threatening. According to Bunte, Bück could no longer even show a normal sugar level because his values were extremely high.
Fighting in the hospital
In the hospital he was placed in a large room with many other patients because he could not afford a private room. In Thailand the healthcare system is good if you have private insurance, which is not the case with Bück; He has state insurance and therefore has to contend with restrictions. A delay in treatment could have had fatal consequences; he might have been at the mercy of a sugar shock, according to reports from Hörzu.
After returning from the hospital, Bück fundamentally changed his life. Now he pays meticulous attention to his health: he works two shifts, injects insulin, regularly checks his values and ensures a healthy diet. Despite the challenges in Thailand, he has no thoughts of returning to Germany. He finds his life here more fulfilling, even if the health care is not optimal.
Family matters and future plans
Meanwhile, his mother in Germany is very worried. Her partner is battling cancer, which doesn't make the situation any easier for the family. Despite these difficult circumstances, Matthias Bück sees his future in Thailand. “I could imagine staying here forever,” he explains optimistically, because life on the other side of the world offers him more satisfaction than he ever imagined.
Matthias Bück not only fought for his life, but also for his joy of life. With a new health awareness, he is determined to face the challenges presented by his new life in Thailand. A strong sign of life from Phuket that shows that you can also see setbacks as opportunities.
