Young Lao woman survives brutal attack in Pattaya – perpetrator on the run!

In the early hours of October 2, a frightening incident occurred in Pattaya when a 19-year-old Lao woman, known by the alias Ms. Da, survived an attempted sexual assault and theft. According to Pattaya Mail, the suspect entered her apartment by pretending to use the toilet. At about 4:00 a.m., while Ms. Da was doing laundry, he entered her room.

After she didn't comply with his demands, he forced the young woman into the bathroom and brutally pushed her to the ground. Luckily, Ms. Da was able to defend herself and scream loudly, which eventually caused the perpetrator to flee. Before leaving, he punched her in the face and locked the door from the outside. Ms. Da quickly received help from neighbors and fortunately was uninjured. The suspect, described as a stocky man wearing a yellow shirt with a blue collar and black pants, was carrying a large white backpack.

Police and investigations

The Pattaya Police, led by Lt. Kittipong Thalaengkan, has started the investigation. CCTV footage is being reviewed and clues are being collected to identify the suspected perpetrator. This also sheds light on the security situation in Pattaya, which has come into focus again and again recently.

According to Numbeo, Pattaya's crime index is 46.20 while its safety index is 53.80. Statistics show that concerns about burglaries and thefts are moderate, but overall crime has increased significantly over the last five years. Citizens are particularly concerned about safety in the event of an attack or robbery, which is directly related to recent events in the city.

Security measures and perception

Despite these incidents, Pattaya recently ranked among the ten safest cities in Southeast Asia, as reported by [Der Farang]. The city now ranks ninth on the Southeast Asia Safety Index. Mayor Poramet Ngampichet highlights progress in public safety, especially in tourism areas. Over 2,000 surveillance cameras have already been installed across the city to combat crime and increase security.

People in Pattaya remain concerned, particularly regarding property crime and physical attacks, which are rated as moderate. Still, as Numbeo's data shows, most people feel relatively safe during the day. At night, however, the feeling of security is rather moderate.

The authorities are committed to continuous measures to improve the security situation and increase the trust of residents and visitors. With a floating population of three to four times the official population of about 120,000, this is an important step to ensure public safety and prevent further incidents like the one that happened to Ms. Da.
