Thai Airways: More seats for New Year's Eve flights to Phuket and Chiang Mai!

With the turn of the year, not only New Year's Eve is knocking on the door, people's desire to travel is also increasing in Thailand. To meet the rush, Thai Airways has upgraded its fleet on popular domestic routes. Due to the expected travel craze at the turn of the year, wide-body aircraft such as the Airbus A330 and the Boeing 777 are now being used instead of the usual medium-haul jets. This reports Weekly flash.

The airline's goal is to create hundreds of additional seats on busy routes, particularly to Chiang Mai and Phuket. On December 31, 2025, an Airbus A330-300 with 588 seats will be used on the route from Bangkok to Chiang Mai (flights TG102 and TG103), which means an increase of 276 tickets. The route to Phuket (flights TG203 and TG204) also benefits: a Boeing 777-200ER with 584 seats is used, which also brings 272 additional seats. On the return day, January 4, 2026, the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners with a capacity of 512 seats per flight will bring passengers back home.

New Year's Eve celebrations in Thailand

Thailand is an absolute magnet for travelers, especially on New Year's Eve. The celebrations on December 31st are a real spectacle. Many cities in the country are decorated with colorful lights and fireworks. One of the main locations for the New Year's Eve celebrations is of course Bangkok, where the biggest party takes place at the CentralWorld shopping center with live music and impressive fireworks displays. If you prefer a more relaxed atmosphere, you can enjoy the view and toast to the New Year in the many rooftop bars, such as the Lebua Sky Bar. Vacation Guru has compiled the best mockeries.

There are also exuberant celebrations in Chiang Mai. Here, dazzling lanterns rise into the sky at midnight, while live music and delicious Thai food await guests at Tha Phae Gate. And for lovers of quieter surroundings, islands like Koh Lanta and Koh Jum offer a relaxing New Year's Eve celebration, away from the hustle and bustle of the cities.

Traditions and customs

The celebrations continue on New Year's Day, which is celebrated internationally on January 1st. Thais visit temples to pray and do good deeds for the New Year. This tradition, which follows the traditional Thai New Year (Songkran) celebrated in April, is evident in the many religious ceremonies and the custom of giving alms to monks. At the celebrations in the big cities, live music, dancing and street parties are the order of the day. New Year's Eve in Thailand emphasizes that this time is used not only for large celebrations, but also for family gatherings and mutual gift-giving.

The preparations for the turn of the year are in full swing. Thai Airways ensures everyone has a seat on the plane to celebrate the New Year's festivities. Whether in colorful cities or quieter areas - Thailand has something to offer for everyone.
