THAI Airways increases flight capacity for New Year: Secure your seats now!
Christmas and New Year's Eve are just around the corner, and the anticipation of traveling in Thailand is increasing! This year, airlines, especially THAI Airways, have significantly increased flight capacity for New Year 2025 to meet high demand. Travel and Tour World reports that the airline is increasing service on popular routes to Chiang Mai and Phuket.
Chiang Mai, known for its impressive ancient temples and lively markets, and Phuket, Thailand's largest island, famous for its beautiful beaches and vibrant nightlife, are at the top of many travelers' wish lists. THAI Airways will use larger aircraft to carry more passengers from mid-December 2025 and its world-class online booking system has been adjusted accordingly. According to the information, travelers should book early as places will fill up quickly.
Additional capacity for New Year
But that's not all: six airlines, including Bangkok Airways and Thai AirAsia, plan to offer over 73,000 additional seats during the New Year period. The initiative is led by the Ministry of Transport in collaboration with the Airlines Association of Thailand (AAT) to ensure travelers have a safe and comfortable journey. The Thaiger highlights that numerous additional flights will be made available between Bangkok and 14 key destinations, including Chiang Mai and Phuket, between December 26 and January 5.
From the beginning of December to the beginning of January, THAI Airways will offer more than 25,000 additional seats. This step is intended to avoid a repeat ticket price increase like last year. A ministry spokesperson emphasizes the importance of these measures for a smooth week of travel, and it is recommended to book tickets directly through the airlines to avoid possible fraud. Airport opening hours will also be extended on certain days to accommodate additional flights, which will be beneficial for all travelers.
Growth in the aviation market
A look at the future development of the aviation market shows promising prospects. According to IATA, an annual growth rate of 3.88% is expected and flight demand could increase to the same level as before the COVID-19 pandemic by 2043. Before the pandemic, 84% of tourists in Thailand traveled by plane and the aviation sector contributed 7.4% of gross domestic product.
Dr. IATA's Xie Xingquan emphasizes the need to strengthen infrastructure in the aviation sector to meet future challenges. Investment in digitalization and sustainability is needed to position Thailand as one of the leading aviation markets globally. The development of sustainably produced aviation fuels could also represent an economic advantage.
So what's on the itinerary? Anyone heading to Thailand next year should be well informed about their plans and book in good time. The increase in flight capacity is a positive step towards a seamless travel experience and anticipation is high for the upcoming New Year holiday in Thailand.
