BLACKPINK concert in Bangkok: Rush on hotels promotes tourism boom

In recent years, tourism in Thailand has changed significantly and is increasingly dominated by pop culture and events. This is shown by a recent analysis from Agoda, which documents a surge in interest in traveling to Thailand. The live concerts in particular, such as those by BLACKPINK, which will take place in Bangkok from November 24th to 26th, 2025, will significantly increase travel interest. Agoda reports that searches for accommodation in Bangkok increased by 18% compared to two weeks before the concerts.

The excitement surrounding the BLACKPINK concert was also reflected in impressive numbers: 1.8 million fans registered for the 120,000 available tickets, which sold out in just 8 minutes and 17 seconds. These turbocharged ticket sales are a new record in Thailand and speak to the group's enormous appeal. An item from Made-in-China highlights that scalpers have already offered over 7,500 VIP tickets at exorbitant prices, resulting in an innovative response from the local tech industry that implemented technologies to minimize bot and scalper activity.

Economic impulses through event tourism

The economic impact of the concerts is also impressive. The concerts are expected to boost the Thai economy by around $110 million. In Bangkok, hotel occupancy rose to 98% during the concert weekend, and the city is forced to provide additional flights and transportation to cope with the influx of visitors.

Not only BLACKPINK is contributing to this trend, but also other events such as the Rolling Loud Festival in November 2025 and the Wonderfruit Festival in December, which have also seen an increase in accommodation searches. According to Agoda, these festivals increased accommodation searches by 36% and 10%. Agoda illustrates that event tourism plays a central role in Thailand's strategy as a global destination.

Sustainable future and challenges in tourism

But the ever-growing mass tourism brings challenges. Before the pandemic, tourists contributed about 20% of Thailand's gross domestic product, which was not without environmental problems. Overcrowding and environmental damage, such as in Maya Bay, have led the government to pursue sustainable tourism strategies. Thailand Magazine reports, that the government plans to limit mass tourism and switch to a more sustainable way of tourism.

The planned targets are ambitious: by 2025, Thailand is aiming for 35 million international visitors who will make a significant economic contribution to local communities. To achieve this, efforts are being made to promote medical and wellness tourism, as Thailand is considered an attractive destination in this regard.

Recent developments in event tourism show that Thailand is on the right track to aggressively market its culture and unique nature while maintaining economic stability. Thailand has every chance to establish itself as a center for entertainment and cultural exchange, which is impressively demonstrated by the positive response to events such as the BLACKPINK concerts.
