New LAWSON branch on Don Mueang: enjoyment around the clock!

LAWSON took a future-oriented step on November 13, 2025 with the opening of its new branch “LAWSON Don Mueang Airport 2” at Don Mueang International Airport, Bangkok. This second branch at the airport aims to offer travelers a convenient shopping experience - with high quality products in a welcoming atmosphere. The Managing Director of SPC, Mr. Wethit Chokwatana, highlights the importance of this new opening, which aims to improve the travel experience for passengers by offering a wide range of products.

The design of the new convenience store comes from the Japanese architect Ko Nakamura, a student of the renowned Kengo Kuma. The interior design captures the feel of a Thai market and is decorated in vibrant colors such as red, blue and pink. A high ceiling in the store symbolizes a soaring airplane - a successful reference to the location, which is frequented by many international travelers every day. The branch covers 146.55 square meters and is open 24 hours a day, so travelers can access its offerings at any time.

Tempting offers and culinary delicacies

The new LAWSON store offers around 2,500 items, including a delicious selection of Japanese dishes such as oden, bentos and tonkatsu rice. The different Oden variants, a specialty for which the supermarket is known, are particularly popular. Lovingly prepared sandwiches and imported products from Japan are also part of the range, complemented by local souvenirs. Another highlight are the grilled chicken on skewers and the New Orleans chicken, which appeal not only to tourists but also to locals.

For many travelers, this is an opportunity to take a short culinary break between flights, as the stay in the branch usually lasts less than an hour. This quick and convenient option for sustenance makes LAWSON a popular stop for hungry travelers.

Expansion plans and the role of Asian markets

With this new opening, LAWSON continues its strategy of appealing not only to Thais but also to international travelers with its offering. LAWSON's first branch in Bangkok was opened back in 2013, and from then on the number of stores has increased to a total of 212. These branches are strategically located to be found in airports, BTS/MRT stations, hospitals and office buildings.

According to Thaitimes, international expansion is crucial for Japanese convenience store chains as Japan's population is expected to shrink by almost a third over the next 50 years. The challenge of meeting domestic demand is leading companies like LAWSON to spread their wings to new countries, thereby introducing the unique character of their products globally.

LAWSON Don Mueang Airport 2 helps continue the long history of convenience stores that began in Tokyo 50 years ago, bringing Japanese culture and quality directly into the hands of Thai and international customers. The journey has only just begun with this branch, and it will be exciting to see what further developments and locations LAWSON will move to in the region in the coming years.
