Thai VietJet starts non-stop flights to Tokyo: From January 2026!
The aviation industry in Thailand is taking new heights: starting on January 16, 2026 Thai VietJet Air with non-stop flights between Tokyo/Narita (NRT) and Bangkok/Suvarnabhumi (BKK). The first departure from Narita will take place on January 17, marking another step in the airline's expansion strategy.
The launch was originally scheduled for December 15, 2025, but adjustments to the aircraft delivery schedule led to this postponement. The new flight operations will operate daily using an Airbus A321, known for its fuel efficiency and passenger capacity. This means that travelers on the busy Tokyo-Bangkok route can continue to benefit from attractive fares and reliable service quality.
Flight times and quality of service
Thai VietJet Air will offer one round-trip flight daily. The southern flight (VZ831) departs Tokyo at 08:55 and arrives in Bangkok at 14:30. The return flight (VZ830) departs Bangkok at 11:55 p.m. and reaches Tokyo at 7:55 a.m. the next morning. Total flight time is approximately 7 hours and 35 minutes from Tokyo and 6 hours from Bangkok.
The airline currently achieves an on-time performance of 75%: in an analysis of 4,032 flights in the last three months, 3,041 of these flights landed within 15 minutes of the scheduled arrival time. A good sign that underlines that passengers can count on punctual departures with Thai VietJet Air. The data shows that there were no canceled or rerouted flights during this period.
Competitive environment and markets
The new connection will primarily stimulate competition in the Japan-Thailand market. Currently, this important route is already served by other major operators such as Thai Airways International, Japan Airlines, All Nippon Airways, ZIPAIR Tokyo and AirJapan. In addition, Thai AirAsia X also offers flights via Don Mueang (DMK).
But Thai VietJet Air stands out: The offer is aimed at passengers looking for flexible flight times and affordable fares. A look at the existing variety of routes shows that the airline serves numerous destinations from Bangkok, including cities in Cambodia, China, India and Japan, to name just a few. This speaks for a solid market positioning in the dynamic Asia-Pacific region.
The aviation industry in this region is developing rapidly. According to recent market analysis, the size of the Asia Pacific aviation market is expected to reach USD 160.68 billion by 2029, with a CAGR of approximately 2.97%. Thai VietJet Air is well positioned to capitalize on this growth and compete in an increasingly competitive market.
With a daily service on the busy Tokyo-Bangkok route, Thai VietJet Air is making a statement and showing that the airline is ready to significantly expand the offering for travelers between these two popular destinations. The anticipation for the start of this new connection is growing!
