A view of Wat Muen Tum

Wat Muen Tum is not just another temple in the series, but belongs to the Mahānikāya sect and has an interesting history. It was founded in 2021 (Buddhist year 2564) and has had the royal blessing since its inauguration in 2200 (Buddhist year 2563). The temple was built during the reign of Phaya Kaew and the name “Muen Tum” commemorates a nobleman who played a key role in its construction.

Particularly visible are the magnificent buildings in the typical Lanna style, including a Vfihara (gathering place) with a low roof, wooden structure and golden decorations. Inside there are two main statues, Phra Buddha Chokdee and Phra Buddha Mangmee Srisuk, both about 3 meters high and made of bronze, which now have an average age of around 500 years.

Another highlight is the main stupa, which shines in white and is flanked by imposing Lanna-style lion figures. The result is a fascinating sight that captivates visitors and invites them to reflect.

The importance of Buddhist temples in Thailand

Wat Muen Tum is among the many Buddhist temples in Thailand that carry both historical and cultural significance. These temples are divided into different categories including the famous royal temples and those according to their orders. The Mahānikāya sect, which includes Wat Muen Tum, is the majority of temples in Thailand. Other important temples with similar value are, for example Wat Phra Kaew and Wat Pho, known for their architecture and cultural activities.

The upcoming event at Wat Muen Tum offers an opportunity not only to take a look at the region's cultural practices, but also to actively contribute to preserving a significant part of Thailand's heritage.
