Royal Awards: Rattanaporn Medal Awarded in Thailand!

On October 24, 2025, a royal decree documenting the awarding of the honorable Rattanaporn and Rajaruchi medals by King Vajiralongkorn was published in the Royal Gazette. These awards are deeply rooted in Thai tradition and honor special contributions to the country and the monarchy. How Bangkok Biz News reported, the awards took effect on September 29, 2025.

The Rattanaporn Medal, originally established by King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) in 1870, recognizes significant achievements in various fields. It has a total of five classes, with the highest award being a golden betel bowl and box. This medal was first awarded again in 1890 and has reached many important people in Thailand over the years.

The awards in detail

In total, numerous medals were awarded. Here are the recipients:

medal Class Recipient
Rattanaporn Medal 4th grade Nontasit Chutiyanuwat
Rattanaporn Medal 5th grade Therdchai Phetthong
Rajaruchi Medal Gold Narinya Onkhamla, Pongsakorn Singhsawat, Suthin Phlatket, Praneet Phlatket

Additionally, four Grade 4 Rattanaporn Medals were awarded on October 3, 2025 to: Kongsak Thiengtham, Napaporn Senarat, Theerawach Krittasima and Chawaporn Torsri. These honors were also officially announced on October 24th.

Historical context of the medal

The Rattanaporn Medal carries a long history and has evolved over the years. It was introduced in 1873 under the name “Rojanaporn” and received its current name a few years later. The medal is not only a mark of the recipients' achievements, but also a symbol of royal recognition, indicating the strength and influence of the monarchy in Thailand. This award may be worn or presented in some other form by the recipients, but may not be directly attached to clothing, such as Wikipedia explained.

King Vajiralongkorn also honored a total of 59 people with the Chula Chom Klao Order and the Rattanaporn Medal, including notables such as former Education Minister Dawphong Rattanasuwan and former Justice Minister Paiboon Khumchaya. These awards, as well as the Rattanaporn Medal, are symbols of the highest honor and appreciation for exemplary service to the nation, such as The Thaiger determines.

The awards show once again how deeply Thai culture and history are interwoven and what importance the monarchy has for the modern Thai state.
