Who would have thought that Chiang Mai is known not only for its exquisite temples and picturesque markets, but also as a sky-gazing hotspot? On November 3rd and 4th, 2025, the center of the Chiang Mai Provincial Government Park will be transformed into a truly heavenly event: “Starry Night over Chiang Mai”. This event, organized by the National Institute of Astronomy (NARIT) and the Chiang Mai Provincial Government, invites everyone to explore the night sky - for free!
From 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., the event will feature numerous activities that appeal to both astronomy enthusiasts and the curious. Over 50 different telescopes are provided to observe impressive celestial objects such as the Moon, Saturn, the Pleiades and the Andromeda Galaxy. Top News reports that participants will also have the opportunity to take stunning photos of the stars using their cell phones.
A variety of activities for star lovers
A highlight of the event will be a special lecture titled “The Secrets of the Moon.” Additionally, visitors can look forward to interactive stations such as the Stellar Light Box and the Glow in the Dark Zone, where they can explore glowing stars and planets. Using the Thai-developed *NAPA Star Map* allows participants to identify stars and constellations in a playful way. For those who like to get creative, there are workshops on astrophotography and creating your own constellations!

Additionally, telescopes and special souvenirs will be raffled off, making the event even more exciting! According to NARIT, the largest astronomy learning center in Thailand, this is an excellent opportunity for anyone who wants to immerse themselves in the world of astronomy. In addition to stargazing, there is also a planetary garden where visitors can take photos with a Solar System Balloon Garden.

For 2024, 18 locations in Thailand have been designated as darkness reserves to support astronomy activities and enhance tourism in the region.
