Yipeng Festival 2025: Natcha Busadee shines in Lanna cultural consciousness!
The 2025 Yipeng Festival in Chiang Mai is in full swing and is attracting large numbers of visitors. The Chiang Mai Municipality celebrated the event in a big way today, November 5th, and it was a true celebration of Lanna culture that took place at the iconic Tha Pae Gate. The aim of the event is to keep the local culture alive and promote it.
A very special highlight was the “Yipeng Children” competition, where the talented Natcha Busadee, better known as “Nong Wanmai”, was crowned the winner. Her portrayal of Lanna culture impressed the jury and viewers. The other places went to Wathaya Rakphuang (“Nong Ingfa”), Pirawan Niamjui (“Nong Rabbit”), Sunatthiya Suan (“Nong Ava”) and Arawanya Daengmad (“Nong Aomsin”). They will all represent the Lanna tradition in 2025 and ensure that the cultural heritage is preserved.
Celebrations and respect for tradition
The awards ceremony was attended by high-ranking city officials, including Sontorn Yamsiri, Deputy Mayor of Chiang Mai, and other distinguished guests. It is gratifying to see how the festival not only brings fun and joy but also promotes awareness of local traditions and cultural heritage.
The celebrations, which take place from November 4th to 6th, are also a tribute to the late Queen Sirikit. Participants are invited to wear traditional Thai clothing to show respect. The exhibition of Yee Peng lanterns, which is combined with international lanterns and offers an impressive light installation called “Thipha Rassami Wieng Phing” on Tha Pa Street, is beautiful to look at.
An adventure trip for everyone
In addition to the children's competitions, there were also events such as the Krathong Parade Competition, which took place today, and another highlight with large Krathong Parades for the Royal Cup, which will take place on November 6th. Visitors can purchase traditional, biodegradable Krathong lanterns at the Ping River for just 20 baht.
The city administration has also ensured the safety of visitors and is organizing a private event where public fire lanterns are prohibited to avoid potential risks. In general, the event is aimed at ensuring a responsible approach to tradition and festivities.
The Lanna Yee Peng celebrations also feature a wide program of cuisine, traditional dances and a mass release of lanterns that represent welcoming good fortune and letting go of problems, underscoring the deeper meaning of the festival.
The festivities invite everyone to be part of a unique experience as the city shines in a magical light. Tourists have the opportunity to gain unforgettable impressions and memories and experience Thailand's cultural roots up close. This mix of tradition and festive joy makes the 2025 Yipeng Festival a highlight in Chiang Mai's events calendar.
