Dane on Koh Samui: Mega theft worth 100 million baht!

Thai police recently arrested a 35-year-old Danish man named Nicklas Yunus Verlis on Koh Samui. He is suspected of stealing a safe from a Chinese businessman's house. This was reported by Scandasia on January 29, 2026 and is causing a stir in the region.

The stolen safe, which had a high value, contained documents relating to land and real estate worth around 100 million baht combined. Among the seized items are 11 original land registry deeds, 7 house registration certificates and 7 villa permits - a veritable goldmine for anyone in the real estate business.

The daring theft

An investigator said that on January 26, Verlis broke into an apartment in Bo Phut and stole the entire safe. After the theft, the suspect opened the safe at a hotel and kept the valuable documents while disposing of the empty safe nearby. A clever plan, but one that did not remain undiscovered for long.

Police intervened at Kongka Pier in Krabi, where Verlis was trying to leave Thailand. He had already booked a flight from Krabi to Bali and planned to leave his passport behind at the airport. But the officers were quicker and were able to stop him before he reached the airport.

Inconsistent statements and motives

According to investigators, the suspect's initial statements were inconsistent, further complicating the investigation. The motive for the theft remains unclear, but police are determined to solve it. The case shows once again that not everything in the idyllic holiday oasis of Koh Samui is as paradisiacal as it might seem. Crime has its place here too - and the authorities are working hard to put an end to such activities.

The events surrounding this scandalous case have already sparked conversation among residents and tourists and are shining a spotlight on the security situation in popular tourist destinations. It remains to be seen what further information the investigation will uncover.
