Drug raid on Koh Phangan: Four Israelis arrested!
Four Israelis between the ages of 23 and 48 were recently arrested in a spectacular police operation on the popular island of Koh Phangan. The accusation? Operating a drug trafficking network that specifically targets tourists, primarily from Israel. This exciting twist came to light when Thai media published images on Wednesday of the arrests that took place on Sunday. Loud ynetnews Police broke into a luxury villa in the Moo 4 district after residents reported a loud party and suspicious activity.
The first arrests took place as part of a search at the villa. There the officers tied up two men, S. (33), the manager of a nightlife establishment, and G. (23), who is used to parties on the island. A thorough search uncovered large quantities of drugs and cash. Overall, the following were ensured:
- 3,32 Gramm Kokain
- 28,99 Gramm Ketamin
- 0,86 Gramm MDMA (Ecstasy)
- 29 elektronische Zigaretten
The suspects told the authorities that they had purchased the drugs via WhatsApp from a fellow countryman, R. (48). He was later arrested at his home in the Moo 6 district, where an even larger haul of drugs was discovered, including:
- 33,36 Gramm Kokain
- 16,07 Gramm Ketamin
- 23 Ecstasy-Tabletten und zusätzliches Pulver
- LSD-Blotter
- 79.000 Baht in bar
The drug trade and its target group
The Israeli group apparently specializes in selling drugs during parties, which are mainly attended by tourists. This tactic suggests that their network is well organized and seeking profit. The drugs were packaged in resealable zip-lock bags that bore a picture of a weapon - a striking feature of this drug trade that is becoming increasingly well known in the region Thailand tip reported.
All four suspects appeared before a judge in Koh Samui, who refused bail because none of them admitted possession of the seized drugs. The allegations against R. attracted particular attention - he is considered to have played a central role in the drug sales network. While he is described as a mastermind by the other accused, authorities have also decided to deport the group and place them on a blacklist that will bar them from future entry into Thailand.
Further investigations underway
The suspects, S., M. (24, with an OnlyFans account) and G. (23, looking for travel partners on Facebook), now require legal support from a local lawyer. As police continue to investigate, this case once again demonstrates the importance of monitoring and disrupting the activities of drug traffickers in tourist areas.
In light of recent events, Koh Phangan will likely continue to be the focus of authorities to maintain the beautiful island's image as a safe travel destination. It remains to be seen what further developments can be expected in this case and how the legal action against the suspects will turn out.
