Authorities in Pattaya collect bat samples against Nipah virus!

An interesting but important health measure is currently being carried out in Pattaya: the authorities are collecting urine and feces samples from bats in the Naklua area. This routine examination aims to identify potential health risks early and provides insight into animal disease surveillance in the region. How Pattaya Mail Reportedly, this is being done under the direction of Thailand's National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation Department, together with disease prevention and veterinary specialists from Pattaya City.

Coordination was necessary, and on January 27, several agencies met to discuss joint actions. These institutions include the Pattaya City Disease Prevention and Control Department, the Municipal Veterinary Service and the Banglamung District Health Department. The Banglamung Livestock Department and Regional Office 6 of the National Park Authority in Sri Racha were also included in the planning. The aim is to ensure effective collection of biological samples from the flying foxes in Naklua Soi 18/1.

The taking of samples and what it means

The actual sampling began on January 28th at 5 a.m. These biological samples were immediately sent to the Eastern Veterinary Research and Development Center where they will be tested for Nipah virus. The results of the tests are forwarded to the responsible authorities. Despite the seriousness of the situation, authorities emphasize that this is a standard measure as part of routine disease surveillance.

Nevertheless, it is important that the population is informed. The authorities strongly advise not to disturb wild animals and to avoid contact with bats and their excrement. This simple precaution can help minimize potential health risks and protect the community.
