Mayor Ngampichet: Pattaya's sidewalks will be safer and more beautiful!

On October 24, 2025, Mayor Poramet Ngampichet inspected the sidewalk improvements on Pattaya Second Road near Big C North Pattaya during an inspection. The aim of this upgrade is not only to make the city safer, but also to make the cityscape more attractive. The new sidewalks are specifically intended for residents and tourists, with special features such as safety, usability and aesthetics in the foreground. The work is part of a comprehensive project whose progress is personally monitored by the mayor.

Second Road is considered a central hub for business and tourism in Pattaya and the planned improvements are intended to strengthen the city's image as a world-class tourist city. The mayor has urged the contracted contractor to use high-quality materials and strictly adhere to safety standards. It was also emphasized that the public should have access to orderly and functional spaces. The completion of the project is getting closer, but there are some challenges.

Challenges during construction work

Construction work on Pattaya Second Road has been dragging on for over a year. Mayor Ngampichet has reported delays caused primarily by difficulties with older structures under the road. These problems make it difficult to install new pipes and drainage systems, which also affect the adjacent areas around the Mike Shopping Mall and the Royal Garden Plaza. Since traffic disruptions and backlogs are expected, the city administration is asking residents and tourists to be patient.

But it's not just the second streets that are giving the city a headache. Pattaya has recently been struggling with a decline in tourist numbers and security issues. To counteract this, the Thai government has taken various measures to promote tourism.

Strengthening the tourism sector

The focus of government efforts is on upgrading the well-known Pattaya Walking Street. Revitalization is being sought here with extensive infrastructure improvements, such as better lighting and the expansion of safe pedestrian zones. An important part of this strategy is the SUPER Safe City Sandbox program, which includes AI-powered surveillance systems and advanced camera technology for real-time monitoring of public spaces. This is intended to increase the safety of tourists.

In addition to increasing police presence in risk areas, Pattaya's connections to national and international markets will also be strengthened. U-Tapao International Airport is being developed as a major hub for international tourists, while a high-speed train is planned to connect Pattaya to three major airports, including Suvarnabhumi in Bangkok.

The initiative also includes cultural events and festivals designed to both showcase Thai culture and appeal to international tourists. In addition, the “Half-Half Travel” initiative was launched to support travel costs for tourists and further improve the tourist environment.

Overall, the city and government's efforts are positive, aiming to position Pattaya as a safe, attractive and environmentally conscious destination that offers an engaging experience for both locals and travelers.
