Drama in tourism: Thailand welcomes fewer visitors, but high income!
Thailand has released a mixed tourism report for the first eleven months of 2025, showing both declines and positive developments. According to the Thai Ministry of Tourism and Sports, 27,587,845 foreign visitors were counted between January 1 and November 9, a decrease of 7.14% compared to the same period last year. However, despite this decline, the tourism sector managed to generate an impressive 1.27 trillion baht in revenue. This shows that Thailand remains a popular destination for travelers from all over the world.
Demand for Thai travel destinations is high overall, especially during peak season. In the week from November 3rd to 9th, international arrivals increased noticeably, recording 698,389 visitors, an increase of 8.42% compared to the previous week. An average of 99,770 tourists came every day during this time.
Countries of origin and visitor markets
The number of visitors from Malaysia, China and India, which form the five most important markets of origin, are particularly outstanding. The visitor statistics show:
- Malaysia: 3.971.783 Besucher
- China: 3.870.078 Besucher
- Indien: 2.056.933 Besucher
- Russland: 1.478.167 Besucher
- Südkorea: 1.308.510 Besucher
In 2024, 32.40 million international tourists have already visited Thailand, and forecasts for 2025 are between 36 and 40 million. This would increase revenue to an estimated 2.3 trillion baht (about $65 billion), as Roadgenius reports.
The most popular travel destinations
The Thai cities are very popular. Bangkok, with its countless temples and bustling life, was ranked the 17th most visited destination worldwide in 2024, according to laenderdaten.info. The beaches in Phuket and the historical sites in Ayutthaya also attract numerous tourists.
Thailand offers its visitors a wealth of experiences. From the impressive temples of the Royal Palace in Bangkok to the paradisiacal beaches such as Ao Nang and Railay Beach, there is something for everyone to discover. The wide variety of natural beauty and rich culture make the country a magnet for travelers.
The challenges of tourism
Despite the positive developments, Thailand also faces challenges. Environmental problems caused by mass tourism, such as polluted beaches and overused resources, are still an issue. However, the COVID-19 pandemic gave nature a chance to recover and the government is exploring measures to improve sustainability in the tourism sector.
Thailand remains a multi-faceted top travel destination, and the rapid return of tourists is another sign of the country's continued appeal. Hopefully the Kingdom can find the balance between tourism growth and sustainable development to provide an unforgettable experience for anyone who wants to experience Thai hospitality and beauty.
