On October 21, 2025, the highlight of the Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) is approaching: an exciting duel between Thailand and Vietnam in women's volleyball. The draw, which took place on October 19th, produced interesting groups. Thailand, the Philippines and Singapore will compete in Group A, while Vietnam, Indonesia, Myanmar and Malaysia will play in Group B. Only the first and second placed teams in each group make it to the semi-finals.
Thailand, which has an impressive track record of winning 16 SEA Games titles, is now aiming to win its 17th title in Bangkok. In contrast, Vietnam is fighting to win the gold medal in women's volleyball for the first time, having already finished second 11 times. The fans' focus is undeniably on this highly anticipated competition.
Training preparation and athletes
The Vietnamese national team will prepare for the tournament from October 25th to December 20th in Quang Ninh. Before departing for Thailand, the coaching staff will whittle down a list of 20 athletes to 14 players. Some of the most exciting news includes the return of Luu Thi Hue after a three-year injury layoff, as well as Dang Thi Kim Thanh. Unfortunately, Tran Thi Thanh Thuy and Tran Thi Bich Thuy have to cancel their participation as they are active in the Japanese V.League.
The men's team competitions also take place parallel to the women's competitions. This competes in Group A with Thailand, Singapore and Laos, while Group B is made up of Indonesia, Cambodia, the Philippines and Myanmar. Volleyball has been an established discipline at the SEA Games since 1977, with the introduction of beach volleyball in 2003, but it went on hiatus between 2013 and 2019 before returning.
