Suvarnabhumi: Best airport in the world for connected travel!
Thailand can be proud of another impressive award for its main airport. According to the latest results of the OAG Megahubs 2025 report, Suvarnabhumi Airport has been named the most connected airport in the world. This assessment reflects the airport's high capacity and efficient management, which enables it to serve a wide range of international routes. The data underlying the analysis comes from the busiest days between September 2024 and August 2025, revealing connection density at different airports around the world. Topnews Thailand reports that Suvarnabhumi Airport also ranks an impressive 12th in the Global Airport Megahubs category.
The award is not only a reason to celebrate but also aims to gain the trust of airlines. The operating company, Airports of Thailand (AOT), has set itself the goal of further establishing Suvarnabhumi as a regional aviation center and significantly increasing the number of international flights to Thailand. This award further strengthens Suvarnabhumi's position in the global aviation landscape.
Asia-Pacific on the rise
The Asia-Pacific region emerges in the OAG rankings as a hotspot for aviation connections, particularly in the low-cost carrier (LCC) sector. The analysis by Routes Online highlights that 16 out of 25 of the best LCC megahubs in the world can be found in this region. Leading the way is Kuala Lumpur Airport, which tops the LCC rankings and offers the greatest connectivity in the region.
Interestingly, London Heathrow remains the world's most connected airport, followed by Istanbul, which has risen significantly in the rankings. A look at the overall picture shows that, despite challenges such as flight restrictions in Europe, the Asia-Pacific region is growing strongly and therefore offers promising prospects for travelers.
