Thai AirAsia X launches breakthrough: new flights to Sendai and more!
The aviation industry in Thailand is currently experiencing an exciting time. Thai AirAsia X launched a new campaign on November 3, 2025 in cooperation with the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT). The day of the event is the ceremonial opening of the new route from Sendai (Japan) to Bangkok/Don Mueang. One-way prices for the route start at attractive pricesJPY 19,990, which corresponds to around4,990 baht. There are also cheaper flights to Phuket, Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai, all including taxes and fees. Travelers can fly between December 1 and March 27, 2026, but beware: availability is limited and some dates are excluded.
In addition, customers can benefit from a discount of30%Benefit from the “Value Pack”, which includes a selected seat, 20 kg of checked baggage and a meal during the flight. Thai AirAsia X plans to further expand its offering and has launched three new flight routes: Almaty in Kazakhstan, Sendai in Japan and Riyadh in Saudi Arabia. These flights all operate and depart from Don Mueang6,690 baht7,190 baht to Riyadh.
New connections and flight frequencies
Flight enthusiasts will be particularly interested in the frequency of the new flights. There are flights to both Almaty and Sendai four times a week - on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. Riyadh, on the other hand, has its flights on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Thai AirAsia X relies on the modern Airbus A330 for all new routes. The inaugural flights to Almaty and Sendai will take place on December 1, 2025, while the flight to Riyadh will take off a day later.
CEO Pattra Boosarawongse is optimistic: “We want to open up new markets and offer our passengers a variety of travel options.” With these three new destinations, Thai AirAsia X will operate a total of ten direct routes from Bangkok by the end of the year.
Airport transfers in Thailand
When planning a trip to Thailand, the question that often arises is how to get from the airport to your destination. There are numerous transfer options available: from private cars to taxis to the famous tuk-tuks. In popular tourist destinations such as Phuket, Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai, taxis have fixed prices that often do not require meters. For example, a taxi from Phuket airport to the city costs up to500 baht, while the same way in Bangkok only250 bahtcosts.
Additionally, many hotels offer airport transfers, either free or for a fee. Private transfers are often necessary, especially in more remote regions, as not all taxi companies go there. Alternatives such as ride-sharing app Grab are also available after Uber pulled out of Thailand in 2018. If you want to travel between the Thai islands, you will also find boat transfers quite practical.
Overall, Thailand, with its nine major airports such as Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang, is well positioned to offer travelers a comfortable journey. Anyone planning a trip to Thailand will find helpful information here to book the right transfer to their destination.
