United Airlines launches first flight from Los Angeles to Bangkok!
Today is a special day for international travel in Thailand: The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is celebrating the return of United Airlines with the first flight from Los Angeles to Bangkok in over 11 years. This is not only a major event for the airline, but also a significant upgrade for Bangkok as an important gateway to Asia and other long-haul destinations.
The flight operates daily via Hong Kong and offers an expanded travel option for North American tourists looking to explore the Kingdom. United Airlines flies with a modern Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, which offers a total of 257 seats in different classes. The first departure was on October 24th and arrival in Bangkok was on October 26th at 11:25am. The return flight departs daily at 4:55 p.m. and arrives in Los Angeles at 8:25 p.m., seamlessly complementing the planned connection to over 75 destinations in America.
A celebratory reception
The flight was properly celebrated at Suvarnabhumi Airport with a welcome ceremony and a traditional water greeting. Among the guests of honor were US Ambassador to Thailand Robert F. Godec and TAT Governor Thapanee Kiatphaibool. The latter emphasized the importance of this connection for bilateral tourism and economic relations and underlined how much Thailand has gained in international attractiveness as a travel destination.
The return of United Airlines is a clear sign of confidence in Thailand's tourism potential. As of October 24, 2025, 808,288 American tourists have already visited Thailand, an increase of 5 percent compared to the previous year. What is particularly encouraging is the prospect that 1.09 million more American visitors are expected in the fourth quarter.
Thailand as an international travel mecca
Thailand, also known as the “Kingdom of Thailand”, has become one of the most visited countries in the world in recent years. In 2024, a total of 32.40 million international tourists enjoyed the stunning beaches, rich culture and diverse travel options. The metropolis of Bangkok, the dream beaches in Phuket and the historic ruins in Ayutthaya are particularly popular. The majestic Buddhist temples also attract visitors from all over the world.
The best times to visit are from November to early April, when the weather is most pleasant. December is the busiest month with 3.63 million visitors, followed by February and November.
With tourism revenue forecast to reach 62 billion baht by year-end and growth in long-haul arrivals from North America, United Airlines' new connection and steady influx of visitors strengthen Thailand's position on the international travel map. Looking forward, between 36 and 40 million international tourists are expected to visit Thailand in 2025 - fantastic news for the industry!
It remains to be seen how tourism will develop, but one thing is certain: Thailand still has a lot to offer with its picturesque beaches and a warm-hearted population. Once you have experienced free access to the paradisiacal corners of Thailand, you won't be able to leave it again so quickly. The kingdom remains a jewel in the world of travel.
