Vijit Chao Phraya Light Festival 2025: A royal tribute for everyone!

A very special light show will illuminate the banks of the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok from November 9, 2025. The Vijit Chao Phraya 2025 festival is themed “Light of Siam – Mother of the Land” and is a tribute to Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother, who is honored during a national period of mourning. From 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. daily until December 23, visitors can take part in this impressive event, which not only features soft tones and elegant lighting designs, but also innovative drone displays instead of traditional fireworks displays.

The organizers, including the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and the Royal Thai Navy, have set themselves high goals: to attract 1.5 million visitors to show the country's cultural diversity while supporting the local community. The festival will feature a combination of light, sound and Thai culture incorporated into various areas of the festival. From impressive light installations to festively decorated boats cruising the Chao Phraya, there is something to suit every interest.

Stations of Light

The festival includes 14 main locations, each with their own themes and lighting displays. These include:

  • Rama VIII Bridge: „The Royal Compassion, a Stream to Rama VIII“ – Eine Licht- und Klangshow in königlichen Farben. Showzeiten: 19:00, 19:30, 20:00, 20:30, 21:00, 21:30 Uhr.
  • Khlong Bangkok Noi (Siriraj Hospital): „The River of Royal Mercy to the Mountains“ – Ein Zeichen königlichen Mitgefühls für die Bergstämme.
  • Siriraj Bimuksthan Museum: „The River of Time, a Great Stream to the People“ – Eine Reflexion auf die königlichen Beiträge zur Gesundheitsversorgung.

There will also be workshops that introduce Thai culture, including fabric making and musical performances. The art market will not be missed either, where local delicacies and handicrafts are on offer.

A feast for all senses

“Vijit Chao Phraya” is not just a treat for the eyes; Visitors can also look forward to an acoustic journey where sounds will combine traditional Thai music with modern elements. Important viewing points include Wat Kalayanamitr and the Vichaiprasit Fort, which offer particularly popular photo spots for culturally interested visitors.

The grand “Light of the Nation” candlelight ceremony on New Year’s Eve will crown the festival and commemorate the Queen’s achievements. This event is already a tradition in Bangkok, which is popular for its colorful festivals that are accessible to everyone. 22places reports that these events make the city lively, especially in the dry season from November to April.

Visitors should not miss this colorful spectacle and take advantage of the opportunity to discover different facets of Thai culture - admission prices are free in keeping with the event.
