Thai aquatics team shines at 2025 Asian Championships!

Water sports and exciting stories are currently shaping Thailand's sporting landscape. The Thai national aquatics team recently successfully completed the 2025 Asian Championships in Ahmedabad, India from September 28 to October 11, 2025. The team was able to win a total of 2 gold, 3 silver and 8 bronze medals and thus secured 7th place in Asia. These successes mark the general performance as good, especially in synchronized swimming, as Thai Water Sports Association Secretary Thanawich Thosakul emphasized.

The gold medals went to the talent trio Kuntinan Adisaisiributr, Supichaya Songpan and Pongpimpon Pongsuwan in the disciplines “Mixed Duet Free” and “Mixed Duet Technical Routine”. The silver medals were won in the “Mixed Team”, the “Mixed Free Routine” and the “Mixed Technical Routine”. The bronze medals were won by Wittyakorn Khetthiranakorn in the men's solo (2 medals), Mia Millar and Kamonchanok Kwanmuang in the women's swimming, and the women's team in the freestyle relays.

Looking forward to the SEA Games 2025

However, the big highlight for the Thai athletes is still to come: the 33rd Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) will be held in Thailand from December 9th to 20th, 2025. This event, which has grown steadily since its founding in 1958 and now includes ten participating countries, was last held in the country in 2007. With a mixture of anticipation and hard training, the athletes are preparing to give their best in front of their home crowd.

The SEA Games have become an essential platform for Thai athletes over the years. Of particular note is the record of 183 gold medals set by Thailand in 2007 - a benchmark for future competitions. The previous SEA Games in Cambodia in 2025 were also full of drama for the Thai athletes, where they finished second in the medal table, behind Vietnam.

Sporting tradition and challenges

Thailand has set standards not only in the number of medals, but also in sporting development over the years. The country's strength is particularly evident in swimming, synchronized swimming and water polo disciplines. The previous competitions have always had exciting moments, but also controversies and setbacks, such as Malaysia's withdrawal from the Sepak Takraw competition in 2007 or the elimination of the Thai football team in 2009.

Preparations for the upcoming SEA Games are in full swing. The water polo teams have already qualified for the 2026 Asian Games in Japan, demonstrating the constant development of Thai sport. The athletes are expected to give their all to match the support of the home fans, who are of enormous importance as a support system for the athletes.

An exciting time lies ahead for the Thai nation and its athletes, with everyone fighting for first place and the grapes hanging high. The competitions not only promise top sporting achievements, but also a celebration of the friendly rivalry in the region. Bangkok Today reports that the fan community is looking forward to these games as much as the athletes are looking forward to the competition.
