Chiang Mai takes off: successful medals in youth competition!
The exciting EGAT youth weightlifting competition took place a few days ago in Si Sa Ket, Thailand. Between October 21st and 26th, 2025, the talented athletes from Chiang Mai University showed exactly what they are made of. What was particularly pleasing was that the boys and girls returned with a total of ten medals – five silver and five bronze. A great success for the youngsters! Chiang Mai News reports that this event was all about the competition for King Rama X's royal cup.
The competitions held in the meeting room of the City Employees Association in Si Sa Ket were not only a celebration for the weightlifters, but also a real exhibition of different age groups and weight classes. For example, Mr. Athisak Saeyang was able to boast one silver and two bronze medals in the 65 kg weight class. In the 94 kg category, Mr Narongkorn Phumpanwong was particularly successful and brought home three silver medals. The women also showed their best side: Ms. Pannachon Kittidechamorn secured a silver medal in the 69 kg weight class, while her colleagues collected further bronze medals in the 48 kg and 63 kg classes.

The athletes' impressive achievements are worth taking a look at for yourself. Here is an overview of the outstanding results:

Sustainable promotion of weightlifting
The enthusiasm for weightlifting in Thailand is not only evident in this competition, but also extends far beyond the city of Si Sa Ket. The next big event is just around the corner: the IWF World Cup, which will take place in Phuket from April 2nd to 11th, 2024. This international championship is an essential opportunity to qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics. Athletes can not only present themselves on the world's largest sporting stage, but also secure their place on the Olympic team, as the International Weightlifting Federation explains in a press release. IMF has already signed a hosting agreement with the Thai Amateur Weightlifting Federation and is confident that the event will be well organized.
These developments are a strong sign for the future of weightlifting in Thailand and highlight the important role of the sport in Thai society. So let's stay tuned to see how our athletes will perform!
