Loy Krathong 2025: Chao Ha plans spectacular celebration for the community!
Preparations for the traditional festivals in Phrae Province are in full swing. A few days ago, an important meeting was held in Chao Ha Community to plan the upcoming activities of the Loy Krathong Festival and the “Wai Phra That Cho Ha” Festival. Mayor Adul Lai Thung chaired the meeting, which was attended by numerous administrative and community representatives as well as village elders. The focus was on exciting competitions and community activities.
Loy Krathong Festival 2025 in planning
The meeting discussed the annual Loy Krathong Festival, which will feature a variety of activities this year. Among other things, competitions are planned for the production of krathongs from natural materials. Teams of up to three people can take part, with a maximum of 20 teams permitted per village. The krathong making courses are also very popular. At the same time, a traditional sports competition will be organized for residents of Chao Ha Township, scheduled to take place on December 19, 2026 at the local sports stadium. Participants are divided into different color-coded zones to ensure everything runs smoothly.
In addition, a moving competition is planned to strengthen team spirit and a sense of community. Such initiatives not only contribute to the festivities, but also promote cohesion in the community. Chiang Mai News reported that with these offerings the community focuses on both cultural values and respect for the environment.
The “Wai Phra That Cho Ha” festival
In addition to Loy Krathong, the important “Wai Phra That Cho Ha” festival is also on the agenda. It will take place in the city of Phrae from March 5 to 13, 2025, over nine days, attracting believers from across the region. This year the event will be extended from seven to nine days, bringing with it a variety of cultural and religious activities. From parades with elephants and traditional flags to culinary offerings and competitions - the festival has a lot to offer. People celebrate the Phra That Cho Ha, which is considered to bring good luck, especially for those born in the Year of the Tiger.
Highlights range from a competition for the best flags to light and sound shows that will attract both locals and tourists. The local market will become the center of events with culinary specialties and OTOP products, which could give the regional economy an additional boost. Kapook highlights how important this tradition is to the community and how it can boost tourism.
Environmental awareness at the Loy Krathong Festival
The Loy Krathong Festival has a long history dating back to the Sukhothai Kingdom. As the festival's importance increases, so does awareness of environmental problems. Many people seek forgiveness for environmental pollution on this festival day, especially regarding the disposal of krathongs, which are made of plant materials and floating offerings. More and more initiatives are committed to using more environmentally friendly materials to make the festival more sustainable. Thailand Foundation describes how water plays a central role in this festival, as it is of great importance to agriculture and transportation in Thailand.
The Loy Krathong Festival remains not only a cultural highlight, but also a platform to promote environmentally conscious behavior. Visitors are welcome to take part in the celebrations and experience the diversity of traditional Thai culture.
