New teachers in Chiang Mai: save and discover the benefits of the cooperative!

An informative meeting was held on November 10, 2025 at 8:30 a.m. in Board Room 4 of the Chiang Mai Provincial Administration Building. Chiang Mai Education Authority representative Ms. Sriphan Wienthong welcomed 44 new teachers preparing for their new jobs. The main aim of the event was to give the new teachers an overview of saving money and the benefits of becoming a member of the Chiang Mai Education Authority Savings Cooperative. This is practical information to help teachers make informed decisions and improve their financial situation. This is particularly important because starting a career is often associated with numerous financial questions, and the cooperative can serve as valuable support, as Chiang Mai News reports.

But what exactly does the savings cooperative offer new members? The responding cooperative offers various loan models that are specifically tailored to the needs of teachers. Loans for necessary living expenses are very popular, with a maximum loan of 3,000,000 baht available if appropriate collateral is available. 20 percent of the loan amount must be deposited in the form of shares or deposits. At this point it becomes clear that it is important to find out about your financial options at an early stage. In addition to living expenses, debts with other financial institutions can also be shifted as long as you have been a member for at least six months. Information on the individual loan categories and repayment modalities can be found on the cooperative's website, which has an interest rate starting at 5.50% per year, as RYT Coop explains.

Support from volunteers

In addition to financial support, there are other ways to support the school career of new teachers. Every year, the RDF Thailand Foundation sends at least two volunteers, who often work as English teachers in schools. This volunteer work is not only aimed at local students, but is also intended to relieve the burden on teachers. The goal of these efforts is to improve school performance and communication between students and teachers. In addition to receiving free accommodation, volunteers can explore the local culture and take part in numerous activities, such as temple visits or hikes, adding even more color to their stay in Chiang Mai. The foundation provides comprehensive support to the volunteers and ensures that the experience is enriching for both teachers and students, reports RDF Thailand.

Overall, this initiative shows how important it is to provide new teachers with optimal support right from the start. The combination of financial education and practical application through volunteer projects ensures that both teachers and students are best prepared for the coming school year. Given the diverse opportunities and the warm atmosphere in Chiang Mai, it remains to be seen what positive effects these measures will have in the long term.
