Charity event in Phrae: 680,380 baht for new temple!
On October 19, 2025, an impressive charity event in support of Wat Phanom Kwan Temple was held in Ban Nong Ha, Tambon Mae Kam Mee, Amphoe Mueang, Phrae Province. Mayor Sroithong Lakhammee and former mayor Chokchai Phanomkwan were present to join the community in donating to a good cause. The goal was clear: to raise money to build a new mandapa (vihara) to house a Buddha footprint at neighboring Wat Doi Phra Bat in Chiang Rai. Thanks to the commitment of Dr. Thanuth Thamngraksa, Dr. Kittiya Maneechat and many other community members were able to collect the proud sum of 680,380 Baht, which will now flow into the important project.
Meanwhile, the city of Mae Hong Son was also busy with other interesting activities. There, Governor Chutiporn Sechang informed about the “Khon La Khreung Plus” project. Entrepreneurs have until October 26th to register, with the first applications having to be made by November 11th. So the new month is well underway – and there is a lot that city residents and visitors can expect!
Entrepreneurship seminars
A seminar organized by the House of Representatives Commission on Trade and Intellectual Property was also held on the same day at Hotel Amornrak 2 in Amphoe Mueang. Under the motto “Promoting the sale of community products through online marketing”, 430 entrepreneurs took part and learned about the possibilities of online trading and strategies to increase the value of their products.
A strong sign in times when digital marketing is becoming increasingly important. The exchange of ideas and the passing on of knowledge are the cornerstones of success, as the event impressively demonstrated.
Buddhist traditions and holidays
In Thailand, not only is community support important, but also maintaining rich Buddhist traditions. The day of the start of the rainy season (วันออกพรรษา) took place on October 8th. This day marks the end of the rainy season and leads into the period of Katin, which will take place in the coming month. This is a centuries-old tradition that is considered the “highest good” and allows Buddhists to support their monks. In 2025, a Project Katin will be held in about 30,000 temples in Thailand to promote and preserve Buddhism.
What is particularly fascinating is that this project is being carried out in honor of Luang Por Dhamma Chayo's 81st birthday. During Katin, special ceremonies are held, which also include spiritual prayers and strengthen the community of believers.
Anticipation is also growing for the Loy Krathong Festival, which will be celebrated on November 5th. To mark the occasion, krathongs are placed on the water - a spectacular spectacle that attracts many visitors. Such holidays and ceremonies not only promote community cohesion, but also enhance the travel experience in Thailand, which is known for its colorful festivals and cultural traditions Kenan Asia reported.
The diverse events and the active support of the communities show that there is a lot going on in Chiang Mai and beyond. We can't wait to see what the coming months will bring!
