Hua Hin celebrates Deepavali: Festival of Light connects cultures and people!
Hua Hin will host an exciting cultural event on October 19, 2025: the city's first Deepavali Festival. At 5:00 p.m. the gates will open in front of the Market Village Hua Hin, where Mayor Nopphorn Wuttikul will give the opening speech. He will also be attended by numerous distinguished guests such as Worakan Thaworn, deputy director of the TAT Prachuap Office, and Busaba Choksuchat, deputy mayor of Hua Hin. The festival, organized by the Thai-Nepal Association and the Hua Hin/Cha-Am Tourism Association, among others, is an excellent opportunity to strengthen cultural ties between different faith communities and promote local tourism.
The Deepavali festival, also known as Diwali, is rooted in Hindu tradition and symbolizes the triumphant victory of light over darkness. Celebrations of this kind take place not only in India, but also in various cities around the world, including Bangkok and now, for the first time, in Hua Hin. Attended by over 100 guests from Thailand, Nepal and India, the festival is a unity celebration that invites everyone to experience the cultural heritage and traditions. The aarti ceremony to worship Goddess Lakshmi, considered the goddess of prosperity, is led by Hindu priests from Nepal.
Diverse activities and competitions
One of the highlights of the festival is not only the Aarti ceremony, but also a competition called “Little Lakshmi”, which offers prize money of over 10,000 baht. Talented Nepalese artists who have won awards in their homeland will also perform. Organizers have placed great emphasis on community involvement to promote local commerce and awareness of cultural diversity. The festival is expected to provide not only a very entertaining but also an enriching experience for locals and tourists.
The event aims to strengthen the good old neighborhood between Thai, Nepalese and Indian communities and position Hua Hin as a mecca for cultural tourism. This is in line with the Thai government's vision to establish the country as a leading festival destination in the region and support cultural initiatives. With the success of events like the Songkran festival in mind, they plan to expand the celebrations even further.
Celebrate cultural diversity
As part of a broader plan to promote cultural tourism, the festival will continue to play a significant role in the coming years. Dr. Surapong Suebwonglee, chairman of the National Soft Power Development Committee, recently stressed the importance of such events in boosting Thailand's image and how they can help attract half a million Indian visitors to the country.
The first Deepavali Festival in Hua Hin promises not only a great celebration, but also a step towards even stronger intercultural exchange. The celebrations are free to access and we welcome anyone interested to take part in the activities. If you are interested in the traditions of Hindu culture or simply want to spend a nice evening, you should stop by Hua Hin on October 19, 2025.
