DHL revolutionizes logistics: first full solar center in Thailand!

Phuket, November 7, 2025 – A revolutionary step in the logistics industry was taken in Thailand today. DHL has opened its Bangna Sustainable Logistics Centre, the first fully solar-powered logistics center in the world. With an investment of 1.39 billion baht (approx. 34 million euros), this center is intended to not only change DHL's day-to-day business, but also significantly boost sustainable development in the region. Wochenblitz reports that the company's goal is to position Thailand as a green trading hub in Southeast Asia.

DHL Supply Chain CEO Hendrik Venter emphasizes the importance of sustainability in the company's business strategies and highlights that this logistics center represents a new benchmark for future operations. At a time when global trade is facing major challenges, DHL sees this as an opportunity to establish more sustainable supply chains. In addition to reducing CO2 emissions through solar-powered logistics solutions, artificial intelligence is also used for predictive analytics to better assess geopolitical risks.

A center of renewable energy

The innovative logistics center is operated with a 4.2 MW solar panel system on an area of 24,000 square meters and has a battery capacity of 10 MWh to ensure an uninterrupted power supply. An integrated energy management system optimizes power consumption. In addition, natural skylights are used and low-water devices are used to increase efficiency, as Story Thailand also mentions.

The center's design also takes into account its free trade zone status, which offers companies customs and tax relief. With a total area of 45,000 square meters and special zones for controlled temperatures, the center offers numerous advantages. These features are of particular interest to customers in the FMCG, automotive, technology and engineering sectors.

Sustainability and future prospects

DHL's commitment to Thailand goes beyond the opening of this logistics center. According to Chiang Rai Times, the company has big plans in the region. Strategy 2030 aims to position Thailand as a regional hub for resilient supply chains. DHL sees Thailand as a key player in electric vehicle (EV) production in Southeast Asia, with the aim of achieving a 30% share of vehicle production from EVs by 2030.

To support these goals, DHL already operates a variety of service centers powered by solar energy and offers reliable delivery solutions to small and medium-sized businesses through programs such as GoTrade. The integration of electric vehicles into the company's fleets is already part of its comprehensive sustainability strategies.

In summary, it is clear that DHL is not only investing in its own future, but is also making a significant contribution to Thailand's ecological and economic future. The Bangna Sustainable Logistics Center is a shining example of how modern logistics solutions can go hand in hand with environmental awareness.
