QantasLink launches new flights to Christmas and Cocos Islands!

Connecting to the paradise islands in the Indian Ocean is now even easier! Traveling for Business reports that QantasLink has today launched new flights to the Christmas and Cocos (Keeling) Islands. This marks a significant step for the national airline as it is the first time it will serve these remote areas.

The new connections will be offered with modern Airbus A319s and A320s, twice a week. These flights are of great importance not only for the approximately 2,500 residents, but also for government services that need to transport important cargo. QantasLink CEO Rachel Yangoyan highlights the importance of this new connection in meeting the needs of remote communities.

Flight details and travel documents

Flights will begin on November 3, 2025, with departures from Perth on Mondays and Fridays, according to information from Qantas Travel Insiders. The flight time from Perth to both destinations is around five hours. Australian citizens do not require a visa for this trip, but should present a valid identification document such as a driver's license or passport.

International travelers are well advised to find out about entry requirements before their planned trip, as a valid passport and possibly a visa are required. The new routes are part of a five-year partnership between Qantas and the Australian Government aimed at supporting island communities.

Christmas Island and Cocos (Keeling) Islands

Christmas Island, one of the new destinations, is known for its fascinating red crab migration and its vast, dense rainforests, which cover almost two-thirds of the 135 square kilometer island. The island is also home to rare plants and endangered bird species. Holidaymakers here can enjoy exciting activities such as hiking on the Hughs Dale Track, as well as snorkeling and diving in the beautiful coral reefs.

The Cocos (Keeling) Islands, on the other hand, consist of 27 small islands, only two of which are inhabited. It is a charming region approximately 2,750 kilometers northwest of Perth, where the friendly Cocos Malay community warmly welcomes visitors. Here you can visit the Home Island Museum or sample local delicacies at traditional restaurants such as Sweet As Makan. There are also plenty of opportunities for scuba diving, kite surfing or just relaxing beach days at places like The Shack.

The introduction of these new routes not only strengthens the connectivity of island communities, but also expands the opportunities for travelers to explore such unique destinations.

Whether for a relaxing holiday or connecting to Australia's remote areas, QantasLink's new flights are a step in the right direction for those seeking adventure in the Indian Ocean.
