Vietnamese athletes in focus: preparing for the SEA Games 33!

In the final preparations for the 33rd Southeast Asian Games, taking place in Thailand next month, the focus will be on the Vietnamese athletes and their team. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam recently screened the athletes, coaches and delegation members to ensure that only the best athletes take part. Nguyen Danh Hoang Viet, director of the Vietnamese Sports Authority, highlighted how important this event is for the image of Vietnamese sports.

In order to streamline preparations, special regulations were introduced at the National Sports Training Centers from November 1st. From now on, athletes and coaches must eat, stay overnight and train on site. This measure is intended to ensure that everyone involved can fully concentrate on their skills and the upcoming competitions.

Active training and international competitions

The Vietnamese teams are training intensively and at least five teams have decided to practice abroad. The weightlifting team set up a training camp in China with eleven athletes from October 19th to December 8th. Ten track and field athletes, including reigning 800-meter champion Nguyen Thi Thu Ha and up-and-comers like Bui Thi Ngan, are also preparing in Nanning, China, until November 15th. Quach Thi Lan is making her comeback and will play a key role in the 4x400 meter relay.

In addition, a 15-member swimming team in Nanning is preparing for the upcoming competitions. The national table tennis team will also train in China, while teams such as taekwondo, judo and shooting have chosen Korea as their training location. The boxing and kickboxing teams prefer Thailand, where they are also making their final preparations for the games.

Expectations and sporting goals

The Vietnamese delegation, which is already at the 32. Southeast Asia Games in Cambodia with over 1000 members and more than 700 athletes has high goals. At that time, they competed in 30 of 36 sports and aimed to win 89 to 120 gold medals. Vietnam also wants to defend the championship title in men's and women's sports in football.

At the last Games, the Vietnamese won one gold medal and three bronze medals. Next December, performance will hopefully be increased again - despite the challenges posed by new weight classes that may be unfavorable for Vietnamese weightlifters.

History of the Southeast Asian Games

The Southeast Asian Games have a long tradition that began in 1958 when representatives from Thailand, Myanmar, Malaysia, Laos, South Vietnam and Cambodia decided to form a sporting association . The aim was to strengthen cohesion in the region. The first games were held in Bangkok in 1959, and since then many nations have joined the game to test each other's sporting talents.

Vietnam faces a significant challenge as it prepares for the 33rd Games in Thailand. It remains to be seen whether they will be able to surpass the results of the last games and give the fans another reason to be happy. However, tension is already guaranteed.
