Airport fees are increasing! AOT is planning a drastic increase as early as 2026!
On December 3, 2025, the Civil Aviation Board (CAB) will meet for its third meeting to discuss a significant proposal to increase passenger fees. How Kaohoon International reports, the Airports of Thailand Public Company Limited (AOT) is calling for an increase in Passenger Service Charges (PSC). This should be increased by at least 200 THB for international flights and by at least 200 THB for domestic flights.
After 19 years without adjustments, AOT sees the need to review fees every five years to meet international standards. AOT acting president Paweena Jariyathitipong explained that the new fee for international flights could rise from the current THB 730 to around THB 1,000, while for domestic flights it would rise from THB 130 to around THB 330.
Market analysis and comparison
Of course, this increase would not be without consequences. By increasing the international PSC by THB 200, AOT expects to increase annual sales by approximately THB 11 billion. For comparison, airports in other ASEAN countries, apart from Malaysia, already charge fees of over 1,000 THB per passenger. Changi Airport is currently charging 1,400 THB and is even planning to increase it further to 1,600 THB, which puts the Thai situation in a different light, as well Nation of Thailand notes.
But if the proposal is approved, travelers in Thailand will have to prepare for the new fees in April 2026. This development comes in a market that has not seen aviation fee increases in over 10 years, straining the bill for many airports.
Regional air traffic charges
The airport authority decided to implement this increase due to the introduction of new passenger processing technologies, including automated boarding pass checks and self-service check-in kiosks.
The AOT enjoys a certain level of trust in the financial markets. Bualuang Securities has raised the recommendation to buy AOT shares and increased the target price to 47 THB, which is certainly of interest to investors and is also reinforced by the forecast that AOT's profits could return to about 25 billion THB by 2027.
Overall, Thailand faces an exciting, albeit challenging, time in the area of aviation fees. The balance between the interests of service providers and travelers will be of great importance, as the Thailand Tip shows. The coming months will be crucial to see how the market reacts to these changes.
