Star sparks and moon magic: Moon Night Party” in Chiang Mai!
An exciting weekend is ahead! On November 3rd and 4th, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., Chiang Mai Provincial Government Park will be transformed into a heavenly place of wonders. The “Starry Night over Chiang Mai” event brings astronomy and nature enthusiasts together under the motto “Moon Night Party in the Park”. This special event is organized by NARIT in cooperation with the Chiang Mai Province and the Chiang Mai Provincial Administration. The event will also mark the occasion by holding a ceremony to honor Queen Sirikit to express gratitude for her achievements, Chiang Mai News reported.
Look forward to a real starry fireworks display! Over 50 telescopes from NARIT and astronomy schools are available to observe the fascinating celestial objects. Participants have the opportunity to take photos of the Moon and Saturn with their smartphones, which for many promises not only a technical highlight, but also an unforgettable experience. If you are unfamiliar with the stars, you can use the NAPA Star Map app to identify the constellation with ease. And for those who like to get creative themselves, there are DIY activities such as creating glowing constellations and body painting.
An evening full of attractions
But that's not all! Attractions such as large planetary balloons and the “Galaxy Walk” are sure to amaze. A special talk about the secrets of the moon will also be offered. Whether you want to observe the Moon, Saturn or even the famous Pleiades, the conditions could be quite suitable, provided the weather cooperates. Admission to the event is free, but prior registration is required. Participants should also dress appropriately to honor the Queen.
If the stars aren't enough for you, we recommend the “NARIT Night at the Museum Festival 2024” event, which will take place on December 28th and 29th, 2024 in the Sirindhorn Astronomical Park in Mae Rim. Here, visitors can enjoy interactive astronomy exhibits and special planetarium programs from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. There will also be free stargazing accompanied by music - a hot tip for anyone who wants to experience the celestial spectacle up close, as NARIT reveals.
A look into the future
Anyone who is enthusiastic about current events should also take a look at the upcoming astronomical highlights. On November 5th, an impressive supermoon will be visible, which will be particularly close to Earth. Additionally, the Geminid meteor shower will peak on the night of December 14-15, with an estimated 150 meteors per hour. And in March 2026, a very special event awaits us: Saturn will appear ringless from Earth's perspective for a short period of time, which only happens every 15 years. These celestial spectacles promise exciting nights for all star lovers, according to Nation Thailand.
